Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has shared a list of ongoing road construction, rehabilitation and drainage works across the city, identifying the interventions as critical measures that must be prioritised and completed before the onset of the rains.

The list covers all 17 sub-counties, with works spread across Nairobi and including road construction and rehabilitation, drainage improvements, construction of new road links and culverts, periodic maintenance, and upgrading of selected roads to bitumen standards.

As the works continue, Governor Sakaja has directed engineers and contractors to accelerate implementation, giving them a 14-day window to complete critical interventions in identified El Niño hotspots as the city steps up preparations for the expected heavy rains.

“As you carry out your duties, remember that you are not just doing work; you are saving lives. Your focus must be to work more, do more and, ultimately, save more lives,” he said.

In Dagoretti North, works are ongoing on Emani Lane and Elshedai B in Kawangware, while St Antony–Soko Mjinga–Salim Road, Kabiro Road and Miti Kubwa–Madiaba are among the roads being addressed in Kabiro.

In Kilimani, works cover Muhoya Close and Braeside Gardens Close, alongside maintenance of Processional Way, Mamlaka Road, Dorobo Road, Dennis Pritt Road, Rose Avenue, Makuyu Lane, Theta Lane and Jabavu Road. Works are also being undertaken on Amboseli and Facebook roads in Gatina, as well as Mzima Springs Lane, Waruku, Kauria Close, Tinderet and Gatundu Close in Kileleshwa.

In Dagoretti South, works include Kabuthi Road and adjoining access roads in Uthiru, Jua Kali–Mutuini Hospital Road, Fishbay Road and Nyangumi Road. In Waithaka, the Mukarara–Kikuyu link, Ndwaru Road, Mbiriri Road and Kahuho Road are also being improved.

In Riruta, works are being undertaken on the Riruta Health Centre Access Road, while King’ang’i Road to Maisha Poa Centre is being improved, including the construction of a box culvert.

Across Embakasi, works are ongoing on Spring Board Road, Seventh Day Access Road, Ol Leshwa Road, the Jose Maria–AIC Pewa–Charina link, Maziwa Embakasi Girls Road, the Mastermind–Catherine Ndereba–Cosma Ndeti–Imara Daima link, True Vine–Maingi Road and GNCA Road.

In Embakasi Central, works include Quarry Road and part of Stanjo Road, Mihango Stage–Shalom Junction–Gorofa Saba, Kona Mbaya Link Road, Matopeni Estate Road 1, the 88–Patanisho Road Section 1 and Sunrise Estate roads.

In Kasarani, Ruai and Mwiki, works include the Mimamu–Ruai Primary Bypass, Kasarani–Mwiki Road and drainage works, as well as the upgrading of Sir Henry–Drumvale Road to bitumen standards. Gituamba Road, Njeri House–Deliverance Road and Sunton Road are also among the roads receiving attention.

In Roysambu, Githurai and Kahawa West, works cover Lumumba 1st Avenue, the Karura Road–Garage link, Kongo Road, Kiangishiri Road and the access road to St Lucia Catholic Church. Lower Njathaini–Mugumoini Road in Zimmerman, as well as Maziwa Loop Road and Mkwaju Road in Githurai, are also included.

In Westlands and surrounding areas, maintenance is ongoing on Millennium Road and Kwa Ritho Road in Mountain View, while Maratha, Bhanderi and Crossway roads in Parklands/Highridge, together with the University of Nairobi Upper Kabete Campus Road, are also being addressed.

Other works include the Muringa–Northern Bypass Link Road in Karura/Githogoro, Nagi Plaza Road from Kangemi Bridge to Gitoka, the Kaptagat Road–Waiyaki Way link, and Machagucha and Embassy roads in Kangemi.

In Karen and Lang’ata, works include Marula Close off Marula Lane, St Calvary Hill Hospital Road off Ngong Road, Pofu Road, Valley View Close, Muteero, Gravelia Close and Ngong View Lane. Highrise Estate roads in Nyayo Highrise are also undergoing maintenance.

Governor Sakaja has directed that works in flood-prone areas and identified El Niño hotspots take priority, with engineers and contractors required to use the remaining 14-day window to complete critical interventions.

The County has also intensified the deployment of machinery and coordination with relevant agencies to accelerate drainage and road works ahead of the rains.

Governor Sakaja described the ongoing interventions as a life-saving imperative, urging all teams to move with speed and ensure that critical works are completed before the rains begin.
