Kajiado MCA in court for allegedly brandishing gun at police officer, leading locals in freeing suspect

A Member of the Kajiado County Assembly (MCA) was on Thursday, June 5 arraigned and charged with three counts of misuse of a firearm, willfully obstructing a police officer on duty and creating disturbance.

The court heard that Oloosirkon Ward MCA Marush Stephen Rais Kisemei led a group of locals in setting free suspects who had been arrested by police, and even brandished a gun at the officers.

On the fateful day, December 4, 2023, authorities say that three officers from Oloosirkon Police Station went to effect the arrest of suspects involved in a case of assault and malicious damage in Ngurunga area.

“One suspect, Soipen Samuel, was successfully arrested and placed in a police vehicle, but during an attempt to arrest a second suspect, the husband resisted while a third suspect, Jackline Joshua, remained inside a nearby house,” a police report reads in part.

It was at this point, police say, that the area MCA and the rowdy group armed with sticks and knives roughed up an unarmed police officer who was guarding the arrested suspect, and forcibly freed him.

“With a pistol at hand, the MCA also led the group to attack the police vehicle amidst threats,” the report adds. “The two armed officers, who had entered the house to effect more arrests came to the rescue of their colleague, successfully repulsing the attackers.”
