Kenya condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as death toll hits 19 and 364 injured

Kenya has condemned the latest wave of Houthi rebel attacks on Saudi Arabia, expressing firm solidarity with the Kingdom as a surge in missile and drone strikes continues to claim civilian lives and disrupt critical infrastructure.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi conveyed Kenya’s position during a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed Elkhereiji, on Thursday, October 15.

The Saudi Press Agency confirmed the call, noting that Mudavadi “conveyed Kenya’s sincere condolences and sympathy to the victims’ families and to the government and people of Saudi Arabia following the Houthi terrorist attacks, wishing those injured a speedy recovery.”

The diplomatic outreach follows a sharp escalation in cross-border strikes by Iran-backed Houthi rebels that has shattered a fragile four-year informal ceasefire.

Official data from the Saudi-led coalition shows that drone and missile strikes across five Saudi airports have killed 19 people and injured 364 others.

King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh has been struck 20 times this month alone, with a series of devastating hits at the capital’s airport killing at least 14 people and injuring over 300, forcing a temporary shutdown of operations.

Flight operations in Jeddah and Dammam have also suffered severe disruptions.

Beyond airports, Houthi forces struck the headquarters of state energy giant Saudi Aramco, causing physical damage and triggering volatility in global energy markets.

The escalation carries particular significance for Kenya, which relies heavily on Saudi Arabia for fuel imports under a Government-to-Government supply framework.

The growing frequency of attacks on Saudi infrastructure has raised concerns about potential disruptions to Kenya’s domestic fuel pipeline and broader economic stability.
