The Kenyan-American artist, songwriter, and global music creative Lovince Mckenzie is developing a sound that draws from his East African identity while reaching toward the international worlds of Afrobeat, Afro-house, electronic music, and global dance.
He is working to establish a recognizable artistic world in which cultural identity, emotional connection, and dancefloor energy coexist.
Lovince Mckenzie has released his latest single, “Locked In” featuring Ugandan artist Joshua Baraka alongside Nigerian vocalist Ayo Maff.
The new single “Locked In” links three major music hubs: Nairobi, Kampala, and Lagos. The collaboration arrives ahead of Mckenzie’s forthcoming EP, titled Dance and Soul. It connects distinct music markets across East and West Africa into a single project.
For Lovince, the collaboration represents more than a meeting of names. It reflects the broader idea at the center of his career: African music does not have to be confined by borders, and an artist can remain grounded in where he comes from while creating music designed to connect with audiences everywhere.
A Cross-Border Collaboration
Born and raised in Kenya before relocating to the United States, Mckenzie has spent several years building his catalogue. His work integrates music, fashion, and film.
His catalogue includes early releases such as “Feel Your Vibe” and “Down”, followed by singles including “Lover”, “I Know You Know”, “Home”, “Vigelegele”, and “My Heart.”
His 2026 track “On My Way” signalled a move towards Afro-house and electronic dance production.

“African music does not have to be confined by borders,” he says.
Mckenzie’s primary international breakthrough occurred in 2024 with “Light Up”, a joint track with Lagos-born artist Ayo Maff.
The record showed how East and West African musicians could build commercial success together across regional borders.
Performance Statistics
Streaming metrics highlight the digital reach of the artists across platforms:
“Light Up” (Lovince Mckenzie & Ayo Maff): Recorded millions of plays on Spotify and tens of millions of user video views on TikTok.
“On My Way” (Lovince Mckenzie): Reached over 530,000 views on YouTube within two months of its release.
“Nana” (Joshua Baraka): Accumulated over 5.4 million YouTube views on its official video and earned three nominations at the 2023 African Muzik Magazine Awards.
Joining Forces with Uganda’s Joshua Baraka
Bringing Joshua Baraka into “Locked In” expands the East African footprint of Mckenzie’s recent work.
The EP’s journey moves from distance to connection, from longing to resilience, and from cultural identity to freedom. Beneath that progression is a simple idea: an artist can travel the world without losing the place that shaped him.
For Lovince, the long-term goal is to build a recognizable musical identity that carries Kenyan roots into a global sound, balances emotional songwriting with dancefloor energy, and makes collaboration part of a larger creative mission.
