Leaders underscore value of lifelong learning during 14th Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University graduation ceremony

Local leaders and administrators have championed the transformative power of education and community collaboration, urging residents to embrace lifelong learning to drive regional development.

Speaking after Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology’s 14th graduation ceremony, Siaya Township Ward MCA James Obiero Otare shared his academic journey, noting that he returned to school in 2022 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies. He emphasized that informed community leadership requires firsthand experience and stakeholder unity.

”It was my considered view that community development can be realized if all stakeholders work together in harmony,” Otare stated, drawing from his years of balancing rigorous academic study with legislative duties. He expressed optimism about Siaya County’s developmental potential, remarking on the county’s capacity to thrive.

Echoing these sentiments, North Uyoma MCA Booker Bonyo highlighted the perseverance required to overcome skepticism surrounding the educational qualifications of grassroots leaders. He stressed that pursuing higher education serves as a powerful encouragement to younger generations, proving that dedication transcends age and background.

”Better education than being a big fool,” Bonyo remarked, pointing out that continuous personal growth strengthens leadership capabilities within the political arena.

Meanwhile, Maliera Sub-Location Assistant Chief Nicholas Kudau praised the institution for fostering a supportive environment that enables working professionals and local administrators to further their studies. He noted that several local chiefs and village administrators were among the graduating cohort, equipping them with policy-making insights to better serve the public.

The leaders collectively reaffirmed their commitment to utilizing their expanded academic knowledge to improve public service delivery and champion progressive policies across Siaya County.
