Linda Mwananchi condemns attack on Kawira Mwangaza during Mashujaa Day celebrations

The Linda Mwananchi Movement has condemned the attack on former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Githongo Market in Central Imenti, Meru County, where her vehicles were reportedly damaged and several members of her staff injured.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, the movement said Mwangaza had been invited to the celebrations by the County Commissioner and had every right to attend the national event without facing violence or intimidation.

“Mashujaa Day belongs to all Kenyans, regardless of their political affiliation,” the statement read.

The movement also expressed concern over reports that Mwangaza had faced an earlier attack at Gituine Village in Igembe Central on Monday, a day before the Mashujaa Day incident.

It called for prompt and impartial investigations into both incidents, insisting that those responsible should be held accountable.

“The continued use of sponsored goons to attack and intimidate opposition leaders and their supporters must stop,” the statement said.

Linda Mwananchi also criticised the Council of Governors for what it described as silence over threats and intimidation facing Mwangaza and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

The movement urged the council to speak out against political persecution and defend the safety and dignity of both serving and former governors, regardless of their political affiliations.

“Its silence in the face of these attacks is unacceptable,” the statement added.

Pauline Njoroge, Head of Communication at the Linda Mwananchi National Secretariat, reiterated the movement’s demand for accountability and the protection of opposition leaders and their supporters from violence.
