Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called for political tolerance and peaceful engagement ahead of the 2027 General Election, urging residents to respect divergent political views and affiliations.
Speaking while attending Sunday Mass at St. Andrew Wekelekha Sub-Parish Catholic Church in Musikoma, Lusaka said every Kenyan has a democratic right to participate in political activities and choose a political affiliation without intimidation or harassment.
“Every Kenyan has a democratic right to engage in politics and to choose the political affiliation they believe in. We must respect one another and allow everyone to exercise this right without intimidation,” Lusaka said.
The Governor urged political leaders and their supporters to embrace peaceful engagement, warning against rhetoric and actions that could undermine cohesion as the country heads towards the 2027 polls.
Lusaka, who has been rallying residents behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, said continued support for the administration would enable Bungoma to benefit from ongoing and planned development projects.
He cited major infrastructure investments as some of the gains Bungoma stands to achieve, highlighting the ongoing construction of Rironi–Mau Summit–Malaba dual carriageway, which he said would transform the county by improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and opening up new opportunities for trade and investment.
The Governor also pointed to the planned Standard Gauge Railway extension from Naivasha to Malaba through Mayanja in Bumula, saying the project would further open up Bungoma and stimulate economic growth across the county.
Lusaka said the infrastructure projects, alongside other development initiatives being implemented under President Ruto’s administration, would have a significant impact on Bungoma’s economic prospects.
He therefore urged residents to support the President’s second-term bid, arguing that continuity in government would provide an opportunity for ongoing projects to be completed and new development programmes to be implemented.
The Governor said Bungoma’s development agenda should remain central even as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections.
