Manchester City prepare to return to European action on Tuesday night as they host Greek giants AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium, in a crucial UEFA Champions League League Phase encounter. Kick-off is scheduled for 10:00 PM East Africa Time (EAT) for viewers in Kenya.

The Cityzens enter the fixture under pressure to bounce back on the continental stage following a disappointing defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in their previous European outing. Despite maintaining momentum domestically with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the weekend, manager Enzo Maresca emphasized that European competition demands maximum intensity and efficiency to secure a spot in the top eight.

Squad Fitness Concerns & Tactical Adjustments

Injury concerns have dominated the pre-match buildup in Manchester.

Star striker Erling Haaland remains a late fitness doubt after taking a knock during domestic duties.

Maresca confirmed during his pre-match press conference that the Norwegian international would undergo final assessments in training before a determination is made regarding his inclusion in the starting lineup.

The hosts are already dealing with confirmed absences, most notably forward Antoine Semenyo, who faces an estimated eight-week layoff following a collateral ligament injury suffered over the weekend.

With midfield and defensive heavyweights managed carefully due to heavy workloads following key summer international tournaments and a condensed schedule, Maresca hinted at tactical flexibility, noting that Phil Foden could be deployed in a central attacking role should Haaland be unavailable.

Defensive cornerstone Marc Guéhi acknowledged the demands of the current run of games, stressing the importance of video analyss and team tactical meetings over high-intensity physical sessions during dense fixture periods.

Guéhi expressed confidence in squad cohesion and highlighted the group’s determination to maintain defensive firmness at home.

AEK Athens Embrace High-Stakes Test

On the opposing side, AEK Athens arrive in Manchester determined to make a strong statement.

While acknowledging the quality of the opposition, the visiting management and squad insisted their preparation has followed standard professional routines.

Addressing the media ahead of the match, AEK representatives noted that while playing away at the Etihad brings enormous interest from media and supporters across Greece, the team intends to remain brave on and off the ball.

Commenting on City’s squad situation, the visitors offered respectful best wishes to Haaland regarding his injury recovery, maintaining that competing against the world’s best remains a welcome challenge for their group.

With crucial points on the line in the Champions League table, local football fans in Kenya can catch the action live as kickoff gets underway at 10:00 PM EAT.
