Detectives from the Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit (IFIU) have arrested a man accused of orchestrating nine fraudulent compensation claims arising from a single road traffic accident along Kangundo Road in September 2023.
Edwin Odhiambo Oduor is alleged to have coordinated the submission of claims by different individuals who falsely purported to have sustained injuries in an accident involving an insured motor vehicle, registration number KCT 29J, and a third-party vehicle, registration number KBK 96C, on September 8, 2023.
The matter was referred to the IFIU by Jubilee Insurance Company after doubts arose over the authenticity of the claims.
Investigations established that documents used to support the compensation claims had been fraudulently obtained from Mama Lucy Hospital and Kayole Police Station.
Upon conclusion of investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions, which recommended charges of conspiracy and insurance fraud against the suspect.
Oduor was arrested at the Omega area in Kasarani, Nairobi County, and is being processed pending arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts.
The DCI warned that insurance fraud schemes involving staged accidents, falsified documents, and fraudulent claims can be detected, investigated, and prosecuted, and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
