The once-adored and feared giants of English football, Manchester United, have fallen far short of expectations in recent years. Last night, the pile-on continued after a 4-1 demolition by Como 1907 on the biggest stage of them all, the prestigious Champions League.

On the back of a 1-1 draw away to Leeds United, this loss makes it 2 wins in 10 games for the Red Devils, as the roar and unrest from the fans continue to be rampant due to their dwindling form.

Despite it being early proceedings, Man United are now 20th in the Champions League table and 13th in the Premier League. Head coach Michael Carrick is now under pressure as it seems that even his own players are questioning his tactics on the pitch.

Team Captain Bruno Fernandes has openly spoken on the situation, stating that the team ‘doesn’t press man to man, leaving spaces in behind that make you run run a lot and make people frustrated’ and ultimately proceeded to emphasize that ‘the tactics are on the manager and on the staff to see, not him personally ‘.

This is now the second senior player in the squad to come out and speak against the club in the media after Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez questioned the focus on player performances instead of looking at higher management. The question remains: what next for Manchester United? Where do they go from here?

This weekend Premier League action is back as they face off against Bournemouth at Old Trafford this weekend. Michael Carrick will look to turn his team’s fortune to get some momentum in order to turn their season around and get back on the right track; the fans, on the other hand, will be looking for a show of fight from the players to get a very crucial three points in the league.
