Matiang’i condemns attack on Kisii MCA, calls for swift justice

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i has strongly condemned the attack on Ichuni Ward Member of County Assembly Wycliffe Siocha, describing the incident as a threat to democracy and the rule of law.

In a statement shared on his X account on June 5, 2026, Matiang’i termed the attack “cowardly and unfortunate,” saying it was not only directed at an elected leader but also against the democratic principles that guide the country.

“I strongly condemn the cowardly and unfortunate attack on Hon. Wycliffe Siocha, the Member of County Assembly for Ichuni Ward in Kisii County,” Matiang’i stated.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary said acts of violence against political leaders undermine constitutional freedoms and threaten national unity. He emphasized that leaders should be able to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation, harassment, or physical harm.

“This act of violence is not only an attack on an elected leader but also an assault on the democratic values and constitutional freedom that bind us together as a nation,” he said.

Matiang’i further noted that political disagreements should be addressed through lawful and democratic means rather than violence.

“Violence, intimidation, and lawlessness have no place in our democracy. Every leader, regardless of political affiliation or opinion, has the right to serve the people without fear of harassment, threats, or physical harm,” he added.

The Jubilee deputy leader also urged investigative and security agencies to move with speed and ensure those behind the attack are identified and prosecuted.

“I therefore call upon all relevant investigative and security agencies to act on this matter immediately, conduct thorough investigations, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they are held fully accountable under the law,” Matiang’i said.

According to him, failure to punish perpetrators of such incidents only encourages further criminal acts and weakens public trust in state institutions.

“As we approach a critical period in our nation’s political journey, I urge all leaders and citizens to reject political intolerance and uphold peace, respect, and the rule of law,” he said.

Matiang’i concluded by calling on Kenyans to embrace unity and democratic values, saying the country’s future should be founded on justice, peace, and mutual respect rather than fear and intimidation.
