Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has defended his decision to purchase four new Toyota Prado vehicles, insisting the acquisition should not be used to question his commitment to development, particularly road infrastructure, which he says has transformed the constituency during his tenure.
The legislator said his record on roads is among the strongest in the country, noting that he has already overseen the completion of 67 roads across Nyaribari Chache and can account for each project.
“I did not buy those vehicles because our roads are bad. I am among the few Members of Parliament who have delivered one of the highest numbers of roads. I have completed 67 roads, and I can account for every one of them,” Jhanda said.
He also pointed to the recent launch of a 50-kilometre tarmac road by President William Ruto in Nyaribari Chache, saying the contractor is already on site and works have commenced, further boosting the constituency’s transport network.
According to the MP, improved roads have enhanced access to markets, schools, health facilities and trading centres, while opening up previously underserved areas to economic opportunities.
Responding to criticism over the purchase of the four vehicles, Jhanda said the decision should not be misconstrued as an indication of poor infrastructure.
Instead, he explained that the vehicles are meant to support the movement of his large team as he continues implementing development projects and engaging residents across the expansive constituency.
“I am simply preparing myself, just like any other leader, for my re-election. I don’t see anything unusual about buying four new Prados because I have a big team that I need to move around, and I need those vehicles,” he said.
Jhanda maintained that leaders should be judged by the tangible impact of their work rather than public speculation, saying every road project undertaken during his tenure can be verified.
His remarks come amid increased political activity across the country as elected leaders intensify grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 General Election, with infrastructure development expected to remain one of the key issues shaping campaigns.
