Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has officially joined the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Welcoming Kang’ata at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua described the governor’s move as a major boost for the party.
“Welcome home, Governor Irungu Kang’ata, where you belong,” Gachagua said.
He said DCP has grown into a national party with millions of supporters and thousands of aspiring candidates ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We are determined to be the majority party in both Houses and the majority across County Assemblies,” he added.
Gachagua said the party currently has one Member of Parliament and three Members of County Assemblies from different parts of the country.
In his remarks, Kang’ata said he had predicted Gachagua’s political influence after leaving office on October 17, 2024
“On July 20, 2024, I wrote an article predicting that the then Deputy President Gachagua would be influential come 2027,” he said.
The Murang’a governor also confirmed that he will defend his seat on a DCP ticket in the 2027 elections while maintaining ties with the Linda movement.
“The 2027 elections will use DCP to defend my seat, but I will remain a link with Linda,” Kang’ata said.
