Mvurya meets new CAF Secretary General, gives AFCON update

Kenya, Tanzania and Tanzania will meet on Thursday next week to foster a roadmap for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations that will be jointly be co-hosted by the three East African neighbors.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya has revealed that that they will be discussing a myriad of issues including visa and tax exemption during the much-awaited continental tourney.



CS Mvurya spoke at his Talanta Office in Nairobi as he received as the new CAF Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu: reiterating the government of Kenya’s commitment to staging a world-class AFCON.

“There are a number of decisions will be making next week because we will be having a Pamoja meeting that will bringing together Ministers to discuss matters such as visas, tax exemptions and many others and CAF will be the key facilitator of the event. We will be announcing the road map that will guide the three East African countries towards the AFCON 2027.”

“We had a brief courtesy meeting and first point a s a government is to congratulate him for his new responsibility and reaffirm commitment of the government of Kenya to host the AFCON and right now we have a lot of activities before us to make sure we host a successful tournament,” the CS added.

CS Mvurya also congratulated Mr Adamu following his promotion to the position of Acting General Secretary, having previously served as continental football body’s Director of completion.

Further, the CS witnessed the official handover ceremony to welcome the 2027 AFCON Chair, Nicholas Musonye, alongside the incoming CEO, Antony Lungaho.

He commended the CHAN 2025 team, led by CEO Mike Rabar, for delivering an outstanding tournament and for firmly positioning Kenya on the continental and global stage through world-class delivery and professionalism.
