Ochieng refutes election live-streaming ban rumors

Ugenya Member of Parliament and Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party leader David Ochieng has strongly refuted claims that Parliament has passed legislation to ban the live-streaming of election results.

Speaking during a meeting with chiefs and assistant chiefs from across Siaya County in Siaya town, Ochieng dismissed the reports as baseless opposition propaganda driven by a lack of knowledge, clarifying that no such clause exists in the country’s electoral framework.

Shifting to local governance, Ochieng outlined his gubernatorial bid for Siaya, emphasizing his intention to collaborate closely with administrative units to enhance county planning and public service delivery.

At the same meeting, police spokesperson Charles Owino,  urged local administrators to aggressively register more residents under the Social Health Authority (SHA) program, setting a target to double Siaya’s current enrollment from 500,000 to one million people.

Owino detailed the initiative’s key financial components including hospital development, primary healthcare, and emergency funds while also calling on chiefs to identify unlit market centers and schools for rural electrification.

Addressing regional socio-economic challenges, Owino called on authorities to help transition vulnerable women away from illicit alcohol brewing and toward alternative legal businesses using government platforms such as the Hustler Fund and Nyota Fund.

He further encouraged qualified youth and local stakeholders to step forward and vie for political positions in upcoming elections.
