The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has suffered a political setback in Nyandarua County after a section of its branch officials announced their resignation from the party and declared support for the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

The officials, led by Nyandarua ODM Chairman Dickson Manyara, said they could no longer remain in a party they believe has drifted away from its core mission of defending the interests of ordinary Kenyans.

Speaking outside the party’s offices in Ol Kalou, they argued that ODM had failed to deliver on its commitments after joining the broad-based government.

“ODM has lost its direction. We believed the broad-based government and the 10-point agenda would improve the lives of Kenyans, but that has not happened. That is why we have decided to leave the party,” said Manyara.

The leaders said their decision to join the Linda Mwananchi Movement was driven by the belief that it offers a better platform to advocate for the concerns of wananchi and hold those in power accountable.

“We are joining the Linda Mwananchi Movement because we believe it is committed to defending the interests of ordinary Kenyans and giving citizens a genuine voice,” he added

The group also took issue with President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of failing to address youth unemployment while doing little to curb the growing cases of political violence and goonism witnessed in parts of the country.

According to the officials, many young people continue to struggle to secure meaningful employment and should be empowered through economic opportunities rather than drawn into political confrontations.

“Young people deserve jobs, opportunities and hope—not to be used to cause chaos at political events. The government must address unemployment instead of exploiting the youth for political gain,” said Jackline Wairimu, Youth Leader

The move adds to the shifting political landscape in Nyandarua, where parties and political movements continue to realign ahead of the 2027 General Elections
