One person stabbed as chaos erupted during Raila anniversary at Migwena Grounds

One person was critically injured after being stabbed on Thursday October 15, 2026 during the first anniversary celebrations, commemorating the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Migwena Cultural and Sports Ground in Siaya County.

The incident occurred as thousands of mourners thronged the venue in Bondo to mark the memorial service, where cultural performances and political tributes were underway to honor the veteran leader.

According to eyewitnesses, a sudden commotion broke out among a group of youths near the perimeter of the main grounds, leading to a scuffle during which the victim was stabbed.

No arrests have been made in connection with the attack, and the assailant managed to slip away into the massive crowd.

Medics and security marshals at the venue rushed the injured victim to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

Local law enforcement agencies have launched an inquiry into the incident, though no official statement has yet been released regarding suspects.

The security team has since reinforced checkpoints around the grounds to maintain order as the memorial events proceed.
