More than 150 religious leaders, civil society representatives, youth, University students and members of the public gathered in Nairobi on Saturday for the Peace Builders’ Walk and clean city, peaceful city volunteer cleanup, calling for greater public commitment to peace, religious freedom and community responsibility.
Organized by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Kenya and International Youth Peace Group (IPYG), with participation from Nairobi City County, the 5-kilometre walk passed through Nairobi’s Central Business District, where participants engaged members of the public and raised awareness about the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and global peace initiatives.
The gathering brought together representatives from Christianity and Islam, civil society organizations, youth groups, universities and members of the public.
A significant moment of the event was the recognition of HWPL Chairman Man-Hee Lee as a Global Peace Champion by Kenyan religious leaders.
The leaders contributed toward the purchase of a Global Peace Champion plaque, which was formally presented to HWPL.
Religious leaders also expressed concern over the continued detention of Chairman Lee, emphasizing the importance of religious freedom, human dignity and the protection of those engaged in peacebuilding efforts.
The issue formed part of their broader call for continued dialogue and peaceful approaches to matters affecting religious communities.
The Ministry of Health also recognized HWPL Kenya with a certificate of recognition for its blood donation activities, highlighting the organization’s contribution to humanitarian and community initiatives.
Following the peace walk, participants conducted a clean city, peaceful city volunteer cleanup in parts of Nairobi’s CBD under the IPYG Youth Empowerment Peace Work initiative.
The activity connected the message of peace with practical community service and environmental responsibility.
The event also opened the door for future collaboration, with six organizations expressing positive interest in working with HWPL.
Planned areas of cooperation include IPYG affiliations, joint community projects, DPCW support, peace initiatives and interfaith engagement.
Speaking during the peace exercise, the organizers emphasized that peace is not only a message to be discussed but a responsibility to be practiced through dialogue, cooperation, humanitarian service and action within communities.
HWPL Kenya’s next steps include collecting DPCW support signatures from participating organizations, pursuing discussions on tabling a DPCW resolution before the Nairobi City County Assembly, developing joint projects with partner organizations, and conducting another blood donation drive before the end of 2026.
The organization also plans to strengthen the WARP Office’s interfaith engagements across the country.
