State Department for Petroleum Principal Secretary Harsama Kello has commended TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya and its transport partners for inventing a fleet safety framework, saying it will strengthen compliance, road safety and reliability of petroleum supply across the country.
The PS said safe petroleum transportation is not only a business requirement but a national priority that protects drivers, road users, communities as well as the environment.
He emphasized that a steady continuity of energy supply also supports the country’s economy.
The PS also acknowledged the Perfect Driver Program, reiterating the significant role it plays in shaping the character of drivers.
“We also welcome the continued focus on driver competence through programmes such as the Perfect Driver Program, because technology and compliant vehicles must always be supported by disciplined, well-trained and responsible drivers,” he said.
The PS made the remarks today in Nairobi during the Driving Road Safety Forward forum that brought together various Stakeholders from the Transport, Energy and Petroleum sectors.
“This achievement reflects what can be delivered when Government, the regulator, industry players and transporters work together with a shared commitment to safer, more reliable and more responsible energy logistics,” he added.
The PS further reaffirmed that the idea underscores the importance of collaboration between petroleum product safety and sustainability.
“This initiative also shows that safety and sustainability can move together. Improved fleet efficiency and driver practices are expected to reduce CO₂ emissions, contributing to a more responsible energy supply chain,” he explained.
The PS called for a continued collaboration among the State Department of Petroleum, EPRA, industry players, transporters and road safety partners.
He said such partnerships are critical in raising standards across the petroleum sector.
“Let us continue working together so that every journey is safer, every vehicle is compliant, every driver is empowered, and every operation contributes to Kenya’s reliable and sustainable energy future,” stated the PS.
