Politician calls for arrest of former presidential candidate Peter Obi

The former chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board chairperson Lauretta Onochie is now calling for the arrest of Peter Obi.

The former presidential candidate Peter Obi was being accused of provoking violence among his supporters after losing the February elections in Nigeria.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party, was number three in the February’s election as Bola Tinubu was declared winner by the electoral body.

Onochie has called on the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest Obi, for allegedly instigating violence in the country.

In a statement posted on her X account, Onochie noted that it was unfortunate that Obi was so desperate to become president to the extent of disturbing the peace of the country.

She explained that since Bola Tinubu was declared President by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Obi with his running mate has been mobilizing youth to cause violence.

“But our noble and patriotic youth completely ignored them, because sensible youth in Nigeria are more in number than his headless mob,” she said.

She further said that Obi was deceived to try his luck at the tribunal, in challenging Tinubu’s win but he failed terribly.

“There’s something sinister and ominous about a man who came 3rd in a race and wants to be declared the winner, at all cost,” she noted.

Onochie’s claims emerged a week after Nigeria’s presidential election tribunal dismissed the election petition challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

According to the tribunal, opposition parties failed to prove claims of electoral malpractice against the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in February’s elections.
