President William Ruto has sent Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi to Tanzania to convey his condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Mzee Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Joho and Sudi travelled to Tanzania on Tuesday to deliver President Ruto’s message of sympathy to President Samia and her family.

In a post on X, Joho said he had the “solemn opportunity” to deliver President Ruto’s message of condolence and encouragement following the death of Mzee Hafidh.

“Accompanied by Hon. Oscar Sudi, I assured H.E. President Samia and her family of our thoughts and prayers as they navigate this painful period,” Joho said.

He added: “May the Almighty Allah SWT grant the departed eternal rest and give H.E. President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania fortitude, comfort and peace during this difficult time.”

Sudi separately confirmed the visit, saying he accompanied Joho to represent President Ruto in conveying condolences to the Tanzanian leader.

“Tuliandamana na Waziri wa Madini, Hassan Ali Joho, kumwakilisha Mhe. Rais William Ruto kumpa salamu za pole Mhe. Rais Samia Suluhu Hassan kufuatia kifo cha mumewe mpendwa, Mzee Hafidh Ameir Hassan,” Sudi said.

He said they conveyed Ruto’s condolences and assured President Samia and her family of Kenya’s support during the period of mourning.

“Tunamuombea Mzee Hafidh pumziko la milele na Mungu ampe Mhe. Rais na wananchi wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania nguvu na faraja wakati huu wa huzuni,” he added.

Mzee Hafidh died on Monday, September 7, 2026, at about 8am while receiving treatment for a heart condition at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.

His death was announced by Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi, who conveyed condolences to President Samia, her family, relatives, friends and the people of Tanzania.
