Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke is representing Kenya at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, where global leaders, technology companies and policymakers are exploring the future of digital ecosystems, including Agentic Artificial Intelligence and 6G-ready infrastructure.
During the high-level engagements, the PS participated in discussions examining how emerging technologies are reshaping economies and public services, with a focus on building resilient digital infrastructure and inclusive innovation.
While touring the exhibition area, the PS inspected the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), a next-generation railway communications platform designed to replace legacy systems with 5G-enabled capabilities.
The system enables real-time communication between trains and railway control centres, improving operational safety, reliability and efficiency across modern rail networks.
Speaking during the tour, Isaboke observed that adoption of advanced communication technologies such as FRMCS could significantly strengthen rail transport systems and support the development of integrated logistics corridors.
“Next-generation communication systems will play a critical role in improving transport safety, operational efficiency and digital integration of logistics infrastructure,” he said.
The PS noted that Kenya is positioning itself to harness emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced connectivity to drive economic transformation and modernise key sectors.
Kenya’s participation in the global forum aligns with the government’s Digital Superhighway initiative, which seeks to expand fibre connectivity, digital hubs, public Wi-Fi access and technology-driven public services to accelerate the country’s transition to a knowledge-based digital economy.
The Mobile World Congress brings together global leaders in telecommunications, innovation and digital policy to explore how next-generation technologies can support economic growth, digital inclusion and sustainable development.
Accompanying the Kenyan delegation were officials from the Communications Authority of Kenya, led by Board Chair Charles Karondo, as well as Adam Lane, Deputy CEO for Government Affairs at Huawei Kenya.
