Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s son Raila Junior has broken his silence over a viral video showing him greeting members of the public from behind a security fence in Kilgoris, Narok County.

In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Raila Junior clarified the circumstances surrounding the encounter, dismissing speculation that the incident occurred at President William Ruto’s private residence.

“For clarity: this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris,” he said.

The video attracted significant attention online after Raila Junior was seen interacting with a group of residents gathered on the opposite side of a fence as he walked away from an aircraft.

The footage prompted questions from social media users, with some expressing curiosity over why the former Prime Minister’s son appeared to be greeting members of the public from behind the barrier.

Raila Junior explained that the fence was not intended to keep him away from residents but was a standard safety barrier separating the public from the aircraft landing area.

“As I alighted from the aircraft, a group of wananchi who recognised me waved me over and asked to greet me,” he explained.

He added that he simply responded to the residents in the ordinary manner he would use when interacting with members of the public.

“The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft,” Raila Junior stated.

The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in events in Kilgoris following the traditional Koito engagement ceremony of President Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, which brought together several prominent political and public figures.

The circulation of the video had led to speculation about where the encounter occurred and who the people gathered behind the barrier were.

Rather than dwell on the online debate, Raila Junior said he was encouraged by the level of interest Kenyans have shown in his activities.

“On a lighter note, I am pleased by the rigor and keen interest with which netizens follow my journey,” he said.

He promised to communicate more frequently with the public, concluding, “I shall endeavour to update you more frequently.”
