Wiper Patriotic Front and Ukombozi Alliance Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday September 27, 2026 led a delegation of opposition leaders to a church service at ACK St. Michael and All Angels Cathedral in Bondo, warning that the legacy of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga is being compromised and must be protected.
Kalonzo was joined by DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, DP Party Leader JB Muturi, and former Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
Addressing the congregation, Kalonzo reflected on his decades-long political journey with Raila, recalling three distinct political seasons together and his consistent backing of Raila’s presidential bids.
He said he stood with Raila because he believed in his message, and did everything within his ability to help him ascend to the presidency.
He voiced concern that Raila’s legacy was under threat and called for the ideals the late leader championed throughout his political life to be safeguarded.
Kalonzo also pushed back on recent remarks by the Ruto regime referring to Raila as a “Project,” saying Baba was not on the ballot and should not be dragged into current political contests.
He described Raila as a powerful leader in his own right who, in his view, was denied the presidency only through electoral manipulation.
Citing the Preamble of the Constitution and its recognition of those who heroically struggled for freedom and justice in Kenya, Kalonzo said both Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Raila Odinga embodied that struggle across generations.
He further reflected on Raila’s commitment to developing every part of Kenya without discrimination, noting that devolution remains one of his greatest legacies — one that must be protected and strengthened.
Kalonzo paid tribute to Rt. Rev. Prof. David Kodia, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Bondo, recalling the Bishop’s sermon during Raila’s State Funeral in October 2025.
The Wiper leader said that although he had not been given the opportunity to speak about his relationship with Raila during the funeral proceedings, he felt the Bishop had spoken on his behalf.
In his remarks, Raphael Tuju urged Kalonzo to continue engaging the people of Bondo and the wider Nyanza region, recalling that Kalonzo had repeatedly stood by Raila even during periods when he was not his running mate.
Kalonzo thanked the people of Bondo and Nyanza for their reception, and reaffirmed his commitment to continued engagement with the region as part of the broader opposition’s push for political change.
