Roysambu murder: Probe reveals slain lady met her ‘killer’ on Instagram

KENYANews

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives based at Kasarani Police Station on Tuesday arrested three suspects linked to murder of a lady in Roysambu, Nairobi County.

Police say one of the suspects was intercepted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) attempting to flee the country.

Apparently, the man had a Mozambican passport with him although the sleuths are yet to establish his destination.

The suspects spent the better part of Tuesday under questioning by the authorities. Investigations now reveal that the 20-year-old deceased student and her suspected killer met on Instagram.

It was further established that the girl, a student at a local university, travelled from Athi River on Saturday, January 13 to Roysambu for a romantic encounter with the man in question.

Emerging CCTV footage featured the man on the said day, walking into a grocery store donning a black cap and sun glasses, as he picked up keys to the Airbnb apartment in Roysambu.

The mobile number which the suspect used to book the apartment was traced to Ruaka four days prior to the occurrence.

Detectives are yet to find the head of the deceased which was missing as they recovered her dismembered body at the Airbnb.

However, her family positively identified her at City Mortuary after forensic officers took her fingerprints in search of her identity.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua stated that his docket would enforce strict regulatory measures for the Airbnbs which have become popular in the country.

CS Mutua, who is mandated with licensing of private accommodation facilities, declared that a comprehensive review of Airbnb licensing requirements was underway and new rules would be put in place.

The Private Security Regulatory Authority on Monday sent out a directive to private security officers to hold identification documents for all persons in accommodation facilities.

Chief Executive Officer Fazul Mahamed, in a statement, said the directive aims to reduce the number of criminal activities taking place within such premises.
