Ruto awards Gor Mahia players KSh100,000 each, pledges additional KSh10M

President William Ruto pledged KSh10 million towards Gor Mahia’s continental campaign and rewarded each player and member of the technical bench with KSh100,000 in recognition of the club’s successful 2025/26 FKF Premier League title-winning season.

The Head of State made the announcement on Sunday, June 7, 2026 when he hosted the record Kenyan champions at State House, Nairobi, where they presented to him their historic 22nd league trophy.

Addressing the players, technical bench and club officials, President Ruto praised Gor Mahia’s consistency and dominance in Kenyan football, saying their latest title further cemented their place as the country’s most successful club.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, I extend my warmest congratulations to Gor Mahia Football Club on winning the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League title. Your record-extending 22nd championship is a remarkable achievement that further cements your place as the most successful club in the history of Kenyan football,” said Ruto.

The President lauded the club’s performance throughout the season, noting that discipline, teamwork and consistency had propelled K’Ogalo to the summit of Kenyan football.

“This season, Gor Mahia demonstrated the qualities of true champions. You finished at the summit of Kenyan football through discipline, consistency and teamwork,” he said.

Ruto also singled out head coach Charles Akonnor and midfielder Enock Morrison, who won the Coach of the Season and Most Valuable Player awards respectively, saying their recognition reflected the club’s overall success.

The President used the occasion to reaffirm the government’s commitment to sports development, revealing that nearly 28 new stadiums are expected to be completed across the country within the next year.

“We are trying to do our best to give our sportswomen and sportsmen the opportunity to demonstrate their talent. In the next one year, we will have completed close to 28 new stadiums in Kenya, including stadiums in places where people may think they are not a priority,” he said.

Beyond the KSh10 million donation to the club, the President also announced a personal reward of KSh100,000 for each player and member of the technical bench.

“First, I will arrange for each one of you to leave here with KSh100,000. Then, because I hear you are preparing for continental football, the chairman will give me the account details and I will send another KSh10 million. Beyond that, the government, through the ministry, will see how best to support the team. The KSh10 million I have mentioned is from me personally, but I will make sure the government also supports you,” Ruto added.

Gor Mahia earned the State House recognition after clinching the 2025/26 FKF Premier League title, finishing top of the standings with 69 points, five ahead of rivals AFC Leopards.

The championship marked the club’s 22nd league crown and strengthened its status as the most decorated football team in Kenyan history.
