Seven people killed, 27 injured in grisly accident along Mombasa Road

Seven people have been confirmed dead while 27 others were seriously injured following the accident that occurred along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway at ACK area in Salama, Makueni County, on Sunday night.

According to the police report, the accident involved multiple motor vehicles: a truck, a bus, and two saloon cars.

Police responded to the incident, processed the scene and removed the bodies to a local mortuary pending autopsy and identification.

The victims of the accident were rushed to Sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital for emergency treatment.

Meanwhile, the wreckage was towed to Salama police station, awaiting inspection.

The accident caused a heavy traffic snarl-up along the highway, which was later cleared by traffic officers.

The cause of the accident is yet to be known but police have launched investigations into the incident.

Many cases of road accidents resulting from head-on collisions due to overspeeding, reckless overtaking, and poor visibility have always been reported along the Salama area along the busy highway.

Residents have repeatedly blamed KeNHA for failing to redesign the Salama stretch despite multiple fatal accidents.

However, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), together with police have continued urging motorists to avoid speeding, careless overtaking, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
