Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has welcomed the latest TIFA opinion poll that placed him among the country’s leading presidential contenders, arguing that the results demonstrate the growing popularity of the opposition-backed Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with Western Kenya media outlets on Friday, July 24, Sifuna said the movement’s message continues to resonate with Kenyans, a trend he believes is reflected in the survey’s findings.
“From what I know, the Linda Mwananchi coalition or movement currently enjoys massive support across our country because of the issues we stand for,” Sifuna said.
The latest TIFA survey ranked President William Ruto as the most preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, with Sifuna emerging second, underscoring what is shaping up to be an increasingly competitive political contest.
Despite Ruto leading the poll, Sifuna argued that the President’s reported support would not be enough to secure re-election if an election were held today.
“This survey says William Ruto has the support of only 24 percent. That tells you that if an election were held today, he would lose because our Constitution requires a candidate to attain 50 percent plus one vote. If you fail to reach that threshold, you are going home,” he stated.
Sifuna further expressed confidence that a united opposition would be capable of defeating President Ruto in the next general election.
“Based on the surveys and statistics that continue to be released, it is clear that if the opposition unites, we will send President William Ruto home,” he said.
His remarks come as opposition leaders continue to rally support under the Linda Mwananchi banner, with political parties and coalitions intensifying campaigns and positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
