Sonko-linked party suspends Executive Director Dan Mokua Onsumu over gross misconduct claims

The National Economic Development Party (NEDP) has suspended its Executive Director, Dan Mokua Onsumu, with immediate effect over allegations of gross misconduct, as the party moves to enforce internal discipline and accountability.

In a press statement issued on Friday, June 26, the party said the suspension will remain in force pending the conclusion of internal disciplinary proceedings.

“NEDP remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and discipline within the party,” the statement read.

The suspension was formally communicated to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) in a letter dated June 26, 2026, notifying the registrar of a resolution passed by the party’s governing body during its meeting held on June 24.

According to the letter, Onsumu has been relieved of his duties as Executive Director with immediate effect and is no longer authorized to represent the party, act on its behalf, or transact any business in its name.

The party further requested the Registrar of Political Parties to remove Onsumu’s name from its official records as an authorized official and signatory, stating that all future correspondence with the registrar would be signed by other duly authorized party officials.

The notification was signed by NEDP Chairperson Dr. John Nyamu, Treasurer Nancy Muthami and founding member Peterson Maina, who also asked the registrar to update the party’s records accordingly.

The development comes just days after a Kibera court issued a warrant of arrest against Onsumu after he allegedly failed to appear in court in a separate matter.

NEDP has not disclosed the specific allegations forming the basis of the disciplinary action, saying only that the internal process is ongoing.
