Three people have been arrested after detectives rescued five women who were found locked inside a house in Mihang’o, Embakasi East Constituency, Nairobi County, in what investigators suspect was an online sexual exploitation operation.
Detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit acted on intelligence and raided the premises, finding the five women confined in two bedrooms.
Preliminary investigations indicate the victims had been lured with promises of well-paying employment, only to be forced to produce sexual content online for commercial gain.
Items believed to have been used to facilitate the exploitation were recovered from the premises and documented as evidence.
Three suspects were arrested at the scene.
Morine Imbaali, 43, the owner of the house and the prime suspect, was taken into custody alongside her daughter Barbara Okoyo, 24, who is suspected of having recruited the victims, and Alfred Okelo, 30, Barbara’s husband, who is suspected of maintaining the computer systems used in the operation.
All three were escorted to Kasarani Police Station where they remain in custody pending processing and arraignment.
They are expected to face charges of trafficking in persons under Section 3(1)(d) as read together with Section 3(5) of the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Act No. 8 of 2010, alongside other related offences.
The five rescued women are being provided with safe shelter, psychosocial counselling, medical care, and other support services to aid their recovery and reintegration.
The DCI used the arrests to warn job seekers to exercise caution when responding to employment offers, particularly from unverified sources, as criminal networks continue to exploit vulnerable individuals through false job promises.
