Three arrested as detectives seize bhang worth KSh8 million in Athi River

Three suspects have been arrested after detectives recovered cannabis worth an estimated Ksh 8 million during an operation in Athi River, Machakos County.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), and DCI Kyumbi following a tip-off.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the officers intercepted a grey Toyota Voxy, registration number KBU 484U, which was being used to transport the illegal drugs.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of nine sacks containing 270 kilograms of cannabis sativa, with an estimated street value of KSh8 million.

The three suspects, identified as Benson Momanyi, Kennedy Mwanyura and Wilfred Orina, were arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody awaiting arraignment.

The recovered cannabis and the vehicle have been detained as exhibits as investigations into the case continue.
