Turkana Woman Representative, Cecilia Ng’itit, has made history as the first Kenyan member of parliament (MP) to receive the International Women Parliament Award in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for her contribution to women empowerment.
Hon. Cecilia received the award at the third International Women Parliament held on October 30, 2026, for her dedication, leadership, and impact in advancing women’s empowerment globally.
Her grassroot efforts have improved the lives of the Turkana people more so for women and children. Her dedication to girls’ rights, security and economic growth has continued to transform the county and inspire the nation.
Her win serves as an inspiration to female leaders and young women from marginalized communities. Early this year, Hon. Cecilia was also recognized among Kenya’s top 10 most performing Women Representatives.
Kenyans have gone online to celebrate her win. On X, Monroe Amelvins said, “Her journey from Loima facing extreme poverty to Bangladesh is truly inspiring. Winning the global iconic Women Award 2026 proves Hon. Cecilia is a resilient First Kenyan MP transforming lives. Turkana Daughter Shines.”
Another user on X recalled Hon.Cecilia’s project of distributing posho mills to rural women, noting that the project has reduced hardship in the area.
“Distributing posho mills has greatly reduced hardship for rural women. As the First Kenyan MP to secure international acclaim, her grassroots impact remains clear. Today, this Turkana Daughter Shines brightly,” @lensEmpress said.
Hon. Cecilia continues to serve the people of Turkana as she drives her legislative platform that centres on dryland security networks, mobile education assets and maternal health protection.
