Ugunja Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Josephat Musyoki has issued a stern safety warning to residents regarding impending El Niño rains while simultaneously banning local night discos, commonly known as disco matanga, to safeguard candidates preparing for upcoming national examinations.

​Speaking to residents, Musyoki stressed that the Kenya Meteorological Department has confirmed the onset of heavy El Niño precipitation. He urged parents to exercise extreme vigilance and ensure children do not attempt to cross swollen or flooded rivers.

​”It is better for a child to miss school than to be swept away by water,” Musyoki warned, advising families residing in low-lying, flood-prone areas to begin moving to safer grounds proactive to avoid casualties.

​In addition to weather precautions, the administrator announced a strict crackdown on disco matanga events across the sub-county.

Musyoki stated that these gatherings have become hubs for social vices, including the defilement and sexual assault of minors, as well as the spread of diseases among young people.

​”Our national examinations are around the corner, and we must provide a conducive, secure, and peaceful atmosphere for candidates,” Mutimosi said.

He confirmed that local chiefs have been directed to decisively and firmly enforce the ban on all night discos to ensure students can focus on their upcoming exams undisturbed.
