Wajackoyah invites DP Gachagua for a cup of tea in Mumias

In a rare spectacle in Kenya’s political scene, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua met with former Roots Party Presidential Candidate George Wajackoyah and even exchanged pleasantries.

The mourners who had gathered in Nyandarua County during the funeral of Priesthood Church Bishop JJ Gitahi’s mother had the opportunity to witness this first hand.

During the service, Prof Wajackoyah shook DP Gachagua’s hand, and had fond memories about that.

“My friendship with the Deputy President has begun today, this is the first I have shaken the hand of this man and I thought he will slap me,” he said.

Prof. Wajackoyah went further to extend an olive branch to the man who is fondly known as Riggyg by Kenyans.

“I’m extending an olive branch to you my brother that politics is extended outwards, but in Kenya we are ok. I’m inviting you to come to Mumias and have a cup of tea with the Wanga people,…”

While responding to Prof. Wajackoyah, the second in command assured him that he is not a bad person himself to warrant slapping. But, he was quick to point out the area of conflict he has with him.

“I’m not a bad person, and you are also not a bad man. I only feared you because of how you used to speak about bhang [during 2022 Presidential campaigns] and you know how we have a problem with bhang. I will call you to tell me the good kind of bhang you were talking about.”

While acknowledging he is “not very intelligent, I haven’t learnt a lot”, Gachagua implored Prof. Wajackoyah to make him understand which kind of the narcotic substance was he advocating for.

Prof. Wajackoyah anchored his presidential campaigns on decriminalising marijuana, practice snake farming and embracing technology in agriculture as the only way Kenya’s economy can be salvaged.
