Warrant of arrest issued against ex-CS Peter Munya over KSh68 billion

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation on August 31, launched a manhunt for former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya over a KSh68 billion case.

This was after the Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Eunice Nyutu issued orders for the arrest of Peter Munya, who is also a former Meru governor.

“I order Munya to present himself in court by 11:15 a.m. His warrant of arrest still stands,” Magistrate Nyutu ordered.

The arrest warrant for the former Agriculture CS was issued after he failed to appear before the anti-corruption court to testify in a KSh68 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams’ corruption case.

Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have also joined their counterparts from the DCI in the search for the former Agriculture CS.

The Magistrate also declined an explanation by Munya’s lawyer on why he did not appear in court on August 29, 2023.

At the same time, an investigating officer Douglas Chege told the anti-corruption court that they were unable to effect the previous warrant of arrest, alleging that Munya was hiding.

One of the investigating officers disclosed that a team of detectives has been released to search Munya’s homes in Meru and Nairobi.

The Arror and Kimwarer dams project was expected to be complete before the 2017 general elections but the tendering process was marred with corruption.

This led to the government suspending the Aror and Kimwarer dams project, even before construction began in order to investigate the corruption allegations.

High-ranking government officials, including former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, were questioned and investigated over the dams’ scandal.
