Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala had a disappointing finish in the 100 meters final of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Commonwealth Games 100 Meters champion failed to clinch the top position as many would have expected him to.

Omanyala became the fattest loser clocking a time of 10.07 finishing in a disappointing seventh place, The African champion had earlier just scraped through to the finals after qualifying as one of the fastest non-automatic finishers.

 The Commonwealth Games 100 Meters champion however called on his fans and Kenyans at large not to be disappointed as other opportunities will come up to redeem himself.

” I don’t really know what happened but my body just packed and we live to fight another day.”

In June Omanyala received backing from former American four time sprint champion Michael Johnson, Johnson in a tweet said

“I believe Omanyala will be the first African to win a 100m World Champs medal. His muscular structure provides tremendous power but do any coaches or sports science experts out there think it could become a limiting factor in his ability to sprint efficiently?”

United States’ Noah Lyles delivered on his promise by winning the men’s 100m world title in a world-leading time of 9.83 seconds.

Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo was second in 9.88 making history by becoming the first African to medal in the event’s history while Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes completed the podium also in 9.88.

Omanyala’s attention now is switched to focus on the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, however still preparing for other competitions in between.
