The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed that an aircraft with six passengers in it crashed in the Marondera area on Wednesday ,30 September. Prominent Businessman Wicknell Chivayo died alongside 5 others in the Marondera Helicopter Crash.
The six passengers onboard the helicopter were travelling from Gandami,Chikomba, where the couple were visiting the home where they were building their rural home when the helicopter crashed at Gukenda farm just 40 minutes after it took off. Later the Zimbabwean authorities confirmed that there were no survivors from the helicopter crash.
Chivayo’s death has drawn the attention of President William Ruto who mourned the loss of the business man as a close friend and decribed the loss as painful to the family, friends and those who were close and interacted with him.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend, Wicknell Chivayo, together with his wife, Lucy Muteke, and the other lives lost in the helicopter crash in Zimbabwe,” Ruto said.
The President mentioned that he would remember Chivayo for his friendship, energy and his belief in the possibilities of the African continent.
He also conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe
