Adan Abdulla Mohammed has officially been appointed as the new Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), ushering in a new chapter for the country’s tax administration at a time when Kenya is under pressure to strengthen domestic revenue collection and economic stability.

The appointment, published in a Special Issue of The Kenya Gazette dated May 18, 2026, shows that Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Mohammed under Section 11(1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act for a three-year term effective immediately.

Mohammed brings decades of experience in banking, economic policy, trade and public administration. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Kenya, Managing Director for Barclays East and West Africa, and Chief Administrative Officer for Barclays Africa, where he oversaw operations across ten countries.

His public service experience includes serving as Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization and Trade and later leading the East African Community and Regional Development docket. He currently serves as Chief of Strategy Execution at State House under President William Ruto’s administration.
