The Akamba Clan Governing Council of Elders, in collaboration with a section of Nairobi County Government officials led by Trade CEC Anastacia Nyalita and several chief officers including Bernard Kiala, George Mutuso, and Peter Mutua, has announced a joint resolution aimed at strengthening civic participation and community development within the capital.
In a statement following their consultative meeting, the elders reaffirmed that their council constitution bars them from engaging in partisan politics, but allows them to support the government of the day through social and development initiatives.
They emphasized their commitment to working alongside county leadership to promote unity, awareness, and structured engagement among members of the Akamba community living in Nairobi.
Reading the statement, the Council Chairman said: “As the Akamba Clan Governing Council of Elders, our constitution is clear that we do not engage in politics, but we fully support the government of the day in matters of development and social progress for our people.”
Among the key resolutions reached was a renewed push to encourage Akamba residents to register as voters within their respective wards across the city. The council further pledged to spearhead civic education forums focused on governance, development priorities, and responsible political participation, with the aim of empowering residents to make informed decisions.
The Chairman further added: “We shall work closely with government officers to conduct civic education and urge our people in Nairobi to register as voters so that they can effectively participate in leadership and development matters affecting their community.”
Leaders present underscored that the collaboration is intended to foster social cohesion and accelerate development efforts, noting that community structures such as councils of elders remain vital bridges between government institutions and grassroots populations.
The initiative is expected to roll out through a series of outreach meetings and educational drives across various estates in Nairobi.
