Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has been removed from the influential National Assembly Public Investments Committee (PIC) and reassigned to the Cohesion Committee, in what appears to be the latest fallout from the bribery allegations that recently rocked Parliament.
The move by the Azimio Coalition comes barely a month after Wamboka was suspended as chairperson of the PIC on Governance and Education, following complaints from witnesses who accused him of soliciting bribes and intimidating officials appearing before the committee.
At the time, Parliament said the suspension was meant to protect the integrity of the watchdog committee as investigations continued. The allegations were referred to the Powers and Privileges Committee after concerns were raised by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), which accused the MP of harassment and demanding inducements in exchange for favourable treatment during committee proceedings.
Political observers now view Wamboka’s transfer from the high-profile oversight committee to the less influential Cohesion Committee as a significant demotion within the House structure, signaling Azimio’s attempt to distance itself from the controversy as investigations continue.
