A call has been made to the entire Kilifi County community to embrace environmental conservation.
This call was made by residents and environmental conservationists in Mere village, Malindi Sub County during the opening ceremony of a conference hall funded by a tourist from Germany.
Speaking during the opening ceremony , Salim Mgomoka, one of the youth leaders in the area, said the hall will greatly help with environmental education for the community.
Hidaya Abdallah, a resident of the area, said the community has not fully embraced environmental conservation, with many residents cutting down trees indiscriminately.
The residents also said that lack of awareness about environmental conservation is also a major cause of environmental degradation.
Silvia Jenkins, a German conservationist who is conserving over 20 acres of forest in Mere area for the last 30 years said the hall will greatly help facilitate discussions involving various stakeholders on methods and training for environmental conservation in the Mere area of Kilifi County.
