Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School has departed for Morogoro, Tanzania, where they will represent Kenya in the Rugby 7s competition at the 2026 Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.
The team is gearing up for the regional showpiece, which brings together some of the best-performing secondary school teams from across East Africa. The 23rd edition of the FEASSA Games will be held in Morogoro from August 12 to 23, 2026, featuring competitions in football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, athletics and rugby.
Cardinal Otunga secured its place at the regional championship after finishing second in the Rugby 7s competition at the recently concluded Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Games in Thika. The school fell 26-0 to eventual champions Butula Boys in the final but earned a place in the Kenyan team for the regional competition.
The team stepped up its preparations ahead of the trip, holding a training session at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka earlier today as the players fine-tuned their tactics and worked on their physical conditioning.
“We have prepared well, and the boys are motivated to represent Kenya. The loss to Butula in the KSSSA final taught us a lot, and we have worked on the areas where we fell short. Our focus now is to compete strongly at FEASSA and make Kenya proud,” said Head Coach Edward Sokine.
Cardinal Otunga will be part of a strong Kenyan contingent in Rugby 7s, with Butula Boys and Bokoli Boys completing the boys’ team.
In Rugby 15s, Kenya will be represented by Upper Hill School, Kisii School and Saint Mary’s Yala in the boys’ category, while Kinale Girls, Saint Joseph’s Kitale Girls and Mwira Girls will compete in the girls’ category.
In the Rugby 7s girls’ competition, Kinale Girls, Kimobo Girls and Mbakalo Girls will carry Kenya’s hopes.
Captain Pristone Onyango said: “We are ready for the challenge. Finishing second at KSSSA gave us the experience and motivation to work even harder. We know the competition in Tanzania will be tough, but we believe in ourselves and we want to come back with good results for Kenya.”
