Kenyans have raised concerns after yet another chilling CCTV footage emerged of a broad daylight robbery executed in movie-esque style.
Just a week after a viral CCTV footage showed four armed men storming Watamu Mall in Kwale County in a daylight raid targeting a foreigner, another viral footage is making rounds on social media, this time, in Kenya’s capital.
In the one-minute footage, an two armed gangsters riding on a motorcycle are seen storming a popular restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands, Nairobi.
The robbers then go on to rob the customers of their mobile phones and laptop at gunpoint, before fleeing on a motorcycle that is waiting for them at the entrance of the establishment.
The footage shows the incident occurred at around 9:35 pm on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
But even as police are yet to issue an official statement, Kenyans are blaming the country’s security apparatus for allowing lawlessness to thrive.
“PS Raymond Omollo sings smooth lullabies on the wonderful roads & affordable houses the GOK builds…(we appreciate the good work by GOK)..but he forgot long time his day job…armed robbers have taken over our towns,” Senior Counsel Ahmednasir wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Nelson Havi, another Senior Counsel, asked, “Broad daylight robbery with violence at ChaiiWali Cafe, General Mathenge Drive, Parklands. The robbers escaped on two motorcycles. Are there surveillance cameras on this road? Can the Police arrest these robbers?”
An X user, Kijana ya Kabras, is worried that the country is headed in the wrong direction.
“This country continues to head in the wrong direction if armed robbers can strike hotels and roads in broad daylight, just like a day ago when goons blocked the busiest Thika Superhighway at Pangani to threaten people… Murkomen and Raymond Omollo are sleeping on the job.”
Investigations
Police have since recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the scene, even as investigations begin in earnest.
The sleuths working on the case have also tracked the stolen mobile phones to the Kariobangi area as efforts to identify and arrest the suspects continue.
