Cecil Ouma’s family wants PS Fikirini’s removal to allow independent investigations

The quiet rural home of slain youth Cecil Ouma in Ogello Village, Kabondo Kasipul Constituency, turned into a centre of mourning and renewed calls for justice on Wednesday, July 8 as family members and relatives demanded the removal of Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs from office.

‎The homestead, which had remained largely deserted before news of Cecil’s death spread, was filled with mourners, relatives and villagers who gathered to console the bereaved family while expressing anger over the circumstances surrounding his death.

‎Speaking during the gathering, the deceased’s kinsmen issued an ultimatum to the government, insisting that investigations into the killing would only be credible if Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs was relieved of his duties to allow independent investigations. The relatives maintained that they would continue pushing for justice for their kin.

‎The family described Cecil as a disciplined, respectful and hardworking young man whose dreams were cut short. According to relatives, he attended school up to Class Eight but was forced to drop out because of financial difficulties. Determined to improve his life, he later relocated to Nairobi in search of employment and better opportunities.

His sister-in-law, Ascar Adhiambo, emotionally remembered Cecil as a selfless man who had taken up the responsibility of supporting his late brother’s family. She said he consistently paid school fees for his late brother’s children and provided for the widow, adding that he had planned to construct a permanent house for the family in August before his life was tragically cut short.

‎Family members said Cecil had become the pillar of the household and his death has left the family devastated and uncertain about the future.

‎Even as mourners continue streaming into the homestead to offer condolences, the family says burial arrangements have not yet been finalized, with relatives indicating they are still focused on seeking answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his death before making final funeral plans.

‎The government has not publicly responded to the family’s demand for the removal of Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs. Meanwhile, investigations into the killing are expected to continue as the family appeals for a thorough, impartial and speedy inquiry to establish the facts surrounding Cecil Ouma’s death.
