Chaos inside Migwena Grounds as youth factions clash at Raila Odinga 1st anniversary

News

High tension and chaos erupted inside the Migwena Sports Ground as rival youth groups engaged in running battles during the first anniversary commemoration of Raila Odinga’s passing.

The skirmishes broke out within the stadium grounds, where supporters chanted rival slogans, including calls of “Tunataka Oburu,” forcing organizers and security personnel to intervene to restore order.

Despite the disruption inside the venue, the memorial event proceeded under heavy security.

The event brought together a rare assembly of both United Opposition leaders and national government figures.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka led the United Opposition delegation alongside prominent political leaders, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

Cabinet Secretary for Energy Opiyo Wandayi was also present representing the national executive.

The high-profile gathering drew at least 30 members of parliament, numerous members of county assemblies (MCAs), and a delegation of foreign dignitaries from India who arrived to pay their respects.

Inside the arena, leaders took to the podium to call for calm and unity, urging the crowds to maintain peace as dignitaries eulogized Odinga’s legacy amidst the lingering tension.
