Mama Ida Odinga called on the public to keep Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga in their prayers after he missed the first anniversary commemoration of his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, due to illness.
Addressing thousands gathered at the Migwena Sports Ground in Bondo, Siaya County, Mama Ida clarified that Dr. Oburu is alive and recovering, but was absent on strict medical advice to avoid large public gatherings.
”Dr. Oburu is alive, but he is sick,” Mama Ida told the congregation. “His doctors specifically advised him to stay away from crowds to allow him time to recover. He personally requested me to bring his greetings and to ask you, the people, to pray for his quick recovery.”
However, the message met immediate resistance from a section of the crowd.
Loud murmurs and boos erupted across the sports grounds as Mama Ida delivered the update, reflecting visible tension and dissatisfaction among attendees regarding the senior politician’s absence.
Despite the disruption, leaders present urged calm as the community gathered to honor the late opposition leader one year after his passing.
Raila Odinga, a monumental figure in Kenya’s politics, passed away in October 15 2025, leaving a profound legacy across the region and country.
The anniversary event at Migwena Sports Ground brought together family members, political allies, and thousands of supporters to celebrate the political icon’s life and enduring influence.
