Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has issued a strong defense of democratic principles, declaring she is ready to walk away from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party if the move is necessary to secure justice in Kenya.
Speaking during the first anniversary memorial of her late brother and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the Migwena Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County, the lawmaker emphasized that her ultimate loyalty is to the public rather than any political outfit.
”If standing with ODM means sacrificing everything to protect justice, then so be it,” Odinga told the gathering. “If I have to move to another party to ensure that justice prevails in Kenya, I will do so. My commitment is not merely to a political party, but to the fight for justice, democracy, and the rights of every Kenyan.”
Her remarks came against the backdrop of political friction at the venue. Odinga disclosed that a group of individuals carrying stones attempted to disrupt the high-profile commemoration, though security and attendees prevented the effort from derailing the program.
Directly addressing the disruptors, Odinga stated that their intimidation tactics had failed and left them disgraced as the memorial continued unhindered.
”Those who came with stones to disrupt the meeting are ashamed because the meeting continued as planned,” she said.
The declaration by the high-profile legislator at a deeply symbolic family and national event underscores bubbling political realignments and tensions as leaders navigate the regional landscape following Raila’s passing.
