Concern as Kinoru stadium deteriorates amid calls for urgent renovation

Football stakeholders in Meru County have expressed alarm over the worsening condition of Kinoru Stadium, citing lack of water and dilapidated infrastructure such as the playing surface as major concerns.

The concerns were raised after a Mozzart Cup clash between Al Azizia FC and Kuta Collection FC, which ended in a 2–2 draw in normal time before Kuta Collection edged out the hosts 8-7 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Stakeholders noted that despite the stadium costing nearly KSh 1 billion to construct, it has suffered prolonged neglect.

Meru County Executive for Sports Elias Murega said officials from Sports Kenya have conducted several inspection visits and issued promises of renovation, but no tangible rehabilitation work has begun.

Stakeholders warned that continued inaction could derail sports development in the county, as Kinoru Stadium remains the primary hub for nurturing talent and hosting major competitions.

The county government of Meru has now appealed to the national government to transfer management of the facility to enable swift intervention and restoration of the stadium.
