Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga is appearing before court today, a few hours after he was released by his alleged abductors.

Njenga was accompanied by his lawyers and brother at the Makadara Law Courts.

He was on July 24, 2023 charged for playing a role in planning anti-government demonstrations.

At the time, he was charged alongside his brother Peter Njoroge and aide Felix Lakishe. They were released on a KSh100,000 cash bail or bond of KSh200,000 each.

Maina Njenga’s ‘abduction’

On Saturday evening, Njenga’s lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said that his client had been abducted by unknown people in Kiambu town.

“My client MAINA NJENGA abducted by the DCI from his house in KIAMBU….He has been taken to undisclosed location,” Ndegwa wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Njenga would later be released by his alleged abductors on Sunday night.

He was reportedly dumped in Limuru, Kiambu County, at around 10:15 pm and offered fare home.
