Five nabbed in major narcotics crackdown in Kilifi and Nyeri

An anti-narcotics crackdown in Kilifi has led to the arrest of two drug traffickers and the recovery of cannabis sativa valued at approximately KSh4.2 million.

In a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based in Kilifi raided a house in Kisumu Ndogo area of Kilifi town, where they arrested the two suspects: Eisha Mzungu Kalama and her accomplice, Jamal Chilumo Chiraga.

During the operation, detectives conducted a search of the premises, uncovering two and a half sacks of cannabis sativa wrapped in brown khaki paper, weighing 142 kilograms, ready for distribution.

The suspects were immediately escorted to Kilifi Police Station together with the recovered narcotics, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment.

The seized narcotic drugs are being held as exhibits as investigations continue into the suspected trafficking network.

In a separate incident, police officers from Gakawa Police Station raided a shop at Ichuga Trading Centre in Kieni East Sub-County that was suspected to be involved in the sale of cannabis sativa.

During the operation, a search was conducted in the shop where ninety-two (92) rolls of cannabis sativa were recovered, concealed inside a chocolate packet under the counter. The owner of the shop, together with another person found on the premises, was arrested.

Upon interrogation, the shop owner led the officers to his rented residential house, where another suspect was found in the act of preparing rolls of cannabis sativa.

A further search conducted in the house led to the recovery of six hundred and ninety-two (692) rolls of cannabis sativa, bringing the total number of recovered rolls to seven hundred and eighty-four (784).

The officers also recovered unprocessed cannabis sativa weighing approximately twenty-one kilograms, five mobile phones suspected to have been used in conducting sale transactions, and assorted rolling apparatus believed to have been used in the preparation and packaging of the narcotic substance.

The suspects were arrested and remain in police custody pending arraignment in court.
